Still been running a little weak on new material, but I was able to dig back into the WIP files and found an old Aston West novel that never went anywhere. I have been silently contemplating turning it into another of my novellas, along the line of Seeker. As a little setup for this snippet, from the opening chapter, Aston has just woken up in a bed he doesn't recognize, and finds himself in the company of a woman (sans clothing...who says his luck and timing are always bad?). Again, all the usual warnings about first draft material, but here's a snippet from the (title still in progress) Aston West piece, The Blood That Binds:
She walked towards the bed, skin glistening while her hips swayed with each step. I concentrated on her face, where it would be easier to maintain a conversation, as her frazzled hair started to move in rhythm with the fan above.
I needed answers, and prodded, “Who are you?”
Her forehead crinkled with puzzlement as she sat down, then a look of playfulness came upon her. “Baby, after last night, I’ll be anyone you want me to be.”
She started to run a slender finger down my chest. I gripped her wrist before she traveled too far.
My voice was stern. “What happened last night? I don’t remember a thing.”
Hope you enjoyed it, and again, I always enjoy your comments!
hmmm, sounds like she has good memories of it even if he doesn't, lol.
ReplyDeleteOnly Aston would score and then not remember anything! LOL.
ReplyDeleteDammit, my comments keep disappearing! She clearly has good memories of the night, lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yes, that would be his luck! :-P
ReplyDeleteDefine, 'Too Far'. I mean, hey, I think he's missing an opportunity here. Since he doesn't remember the previous night's shenanigans, perhaps it's time for some NEW memories.
ReplyDeleteI'm just sayin'...
Hehe...Poor Aston. He's going to be in a pickle again. Good stuff!!
ReplyDeleteNice snippet, kind of scene that keeps one turning pages. Good job.
ReplyDeleteHasn't he ever heard the saying, "Business before pleasure"? Good snippet.
ReplyDeleteHmm... somehow I don't think this is going to go well for him.
ReplyDeleteBad move, that--admitting he doesn't remember a thing. PS, that captcha seems to be aimed at testing eyesight.
ReplyDeleteCary, you haven't been reading enough Aston. Everyone knows that nothing good comes from a meeting between Aston and beautiful women. ;-)
ReplyDeleteTK, now I'm hungry. :-P
Thanks, Lyn. I should go and finish this one (add it to the list).
Patrick, it's what he abides by. Probably why he's so weirded out at the moment...
Liana, it's a good guess on your part. Things very rarely go right for Aston. :-)
Sue, it's probably not wise to admit it. That's true. But since he doesn't know her, I don't imagine he cares about offending her. :-)
How rotten he can't remember!
ReplyDeleteDon't want to give any spoilers, but there's a reason he can't remember...though you're right, there's something rotten afoot. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWith morning after conversational skills like that, it's no wonder Aston has such dismal romantic luck.
ReplyDeleteHee hee...that's for sure! :-)
ReplyDeletePippa, for some reason Blogger was sending your comments over into the spam filter. Hopefully now that I've marked these as "not spam" that should clear it up around here. :-\
ReplyDeleteThe question is, will she tell the truth or lie. And how the heck will he know. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThere'll be no way for him to know, other than that classic gut instinct of his. ;-)
